Homeschool Course Descriptions

There are a variety of Homeschool Courses offered. The course fee listed beside each covers the entire course. Parents are encouraged to drop their child off for the class. Courses are taught by certified teachers who homeschool or have multiple experiences teaching homeschool students. All courses include materials and supplies unless otherwise noted. Math courses require the purchase of a textbook, listed in the description of the course. Class sizes are limited. Class registration will be closed once each class has met maximum capacity. Please call the office at 341-1400 to be placed on a Wait List if a course is closed. There will be no classes on non public school days.

Grade 4/5          Mondays          August 29 - May 22               9:30am - 10:45am      $360.00

Math courses are taught by an exceptional, dynamic certified math teacher and will follow the Saxon Math curriculum. Assignments will be given between class meetings and parents will be required to grade papers and keep track of progress. Each class will meet 30 times throughout the year and a schedule will be provided during the first meeting. Children will be required to purchase and bring a Saxon Math Book to the first class. Those registering will receive an email prior to the class with the specific ISBN and order information. A minimum of 8 students must register for each course or the course will be cancelled and payments will be refunded. 
 
Digital Media Courses: Fall

Digital Media Courses will last 10 weeks and cover topics ranging from an introduction to computers to internet safety to blogging and coding. Graphics and Web Design will be added for more advanced students and projects will be shared with parents. 
 
S.T.E.A.M. Specialty Courses-Mondays-1:15pm-2:30pm
Minecraft Engineering Challenge

Ages 7-13           Mondays          September 12, 19, 26  October 10              1:15pm - 2:30pm                   $55

Minecraft meets S.T.E.A.M. as students are challenged to create items based on the popular Minecraft game. Participants will be challenged to design and capture a Creeper, build a block tower and Minecraft blocks, create an animal pen and much more. These S.T.E.A.M. engineering activities will utilize Minecraft to engage children through project based learning.

Extinct Animals
Ages 6-12            Mondays          October 17, 24   November 7, 14               1:15pm - 2:30pm                    $55
 
This class brings Extinct Animals back to life through an in depth study of the science related to their extinction. Participants will learn to extract DNA from animal products such as chicken eggs. They will study the path from population to extinction and the variety of causes, both human and environmental, for animals like the Dodo, the Chinese River Dolphin, Golden Toad, Zanzibar Leopard, Po'ouli, Tecopa Pupfish and more.


The Polar Express: Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead

Ages 7-13           Mondays          November 21, 28 December 5, 12               1:15pm - 2:30pm                    $55

It's full S.T.E.A.M. ahead as we board The Polar Express! Can participants make it to the North Pole by completing various related science, technology, engineering and math challenges? Students will have to make a bell, study gravity in order to fly, build a bridge for the train, design a toy and create a gift box. Will they be able to handle the journey and it's challenges to share hot chocolate and cookies with Santa? We shall see....

Orienteering
Ages 7-13            Mondays          January 9, 23, 30 February 6                       1:15pm - 2:30pm                   $55

It's a race to the finish! Participants will learn to read a map and compass in order to compete against each other to see who can complete a course designed to confuse and delight. Checkpoints, topographical maps and compasses will be an important part of learning how to get from Point A to Point B!

Leonardo da Vinci: The Renaissance Man-Inventions, Artist & Scientist
Ages 8-13           Mondays          February 13, 27  March 6, 20                       1:15pm - 2:30pm                    $55

Leonardo da Vinci was not "just" a painter. He was a man of many talents. Students will learn how to build an Ornithopter from household items, create the Mona Lisa in a new and different way and understand the various hidden talents Leonardo had that helped change the world!

Stop Motion Movie Making
Ages 9-15           Mondays          March 27 April 3, 10, 17, 24  May 1                       1:15pm - 2:30pm           $78

Participants will become writers, producers, directors and editors as they make a Stop Motion Movie from idea to final product finishing the course with a premier for parents and siblings to enjoy. The brainstorming, writing, artistic creation, technology, engineering and communication involved in these amazing final products is a sight to see!

Join AAALC at the IRSC Halstrom Planetarium located at 3209 Virginia Ave, Fort Pierce, FL 34981.  

Cosmic Zoom: Take a whirlwind tour of the Universe, starting with the stars and constellations in our own backyard. Then, sail past the moon, sun, planets, nebulae, star clusters and the great barred spiral of the Milky Way outward to distant galaxies and far-flung quasars. 

Important: Parents must stay at the planetarium with their children. AAALC is not responsible for any child brought to the event. We will need a total number including parents as seating is limited. Please register with the total number attending.
