Superhero Science (Entering Grades VPK-6th) (ONLY VPK OPEN)

Have you ever wanted to be a superhero? Conjure a magic potion, freeze a block of ice, whip up a super storm and study super strength! Ride air currents with Wonder Woman and uncover the secrets of the ocean with Aquaman! Create cool gizmos and gadgets with Batman or discover how fast things can move with Flash. Uncover the science behind the powers of Superman, Spiderman, Iron Man and more as great science defeats evil villians!

Minecraft Education: Hero v Villain (Entering Grades 1st-8th) (CLOSED)

Scientific American declared, "...not only is Minecraft immersive and creative, but it is an excellent platform for making almost any subject area more engaging." Enter a world of rules, parameters, levels and goals that require hard work, intense thinking, teamwork and problem solving skills. AAALC uses this popular game to provide an academic setting for students. Campers will take a trip that carries them through various settings where they will play the hero or the villain in worlds created and saved (or destroyed) by them! It will be a battle of epic proportions!

Magic School Bus: Natural Wonders (Entering Grades 1st-6th) (CLOSED)

AAALC campers will take a trip with Mrs. Frizzle into our natural world. They will learn the science behind bees, bugs, volcanoes, oceans and so much more. Students will learn the amazing contributions of various natural wonders as they study the science related to each one. Learning will extend beyond the classroom with guest speakers, touch tank displays and a plethora of hands-on experiments that give campers a glimpse into the wonders that surround us.

Cake Decorating Course (Entering Grades 4th to 8th) (CLOSED)

AAALC is putting the Arts in STEAM this summer. Have you ever heard the term "too pretty to eat"? Do you wonder how cake artists create such beautiful desserts? Campers will join a local cake artist Candi Keene of Keene Cakes to learn the skills needed to create detailed masterpieces, bringing home sweet treats as they learn the decorating techniques associated with the use of each tool. They will let their imaginations run wild as they put their skills to the test and learn the various ways art can feed the body and the mind! (There is an additional cost included in the camp fee to cover the extensive materials and supplies needed.)

Green Screen Movie Production (Entering Grades 4th to 8th) (CLOSED)

Green Screen Movie Production dates back to the 1900s and is formally known as “chroma keying”. In Green Screen filming, the foreground of the movie is filmed separately from the technology and special effects used in the background. During this camp, students will learn to use the technology behind the magic of the Green Screen, write and produce their own Green Screen masterpieces, both as short clips and longer segments. The skills learned in class can be recreated into additional projects at home long after the class is over.
