Category: Summer Camp

Mad Science (Entering Grades VPK-6th) (CLOSED)

Does your child love Science and Engineering? Does she love to build? Does he have an endless imagination? Mad scientists will explore different aspects of science as they become familiar with the science in their everyday world. Through aerodynamics they will experiment with a variety of flight challenges. They will learn how physics can be fun as they build roller coaster designs and marble mazes. An understanding of how mixtures create shocking results will be developed as they study chemistry through erupting volcanoes, baking soda rockets and more. Campers will become familiar with the critical role robotics plays in their world as they use LEGO robotics kits to design and program bots to complete simple tasks and solve real-world problems. Campers will wrap up the week of fun exploring gooey, ooey, icky creations and more.

Robotics/Coding (Entering Grades VPK-8th) (CLOSED)

Robotics and coding are becoming critical parts of the lives of today's youth. Youth are being prepared for jobs that don't yet exist and need to be able to think, create and inspire! Robotics builds science, technology, engineering and math skills, providing students with real world experiences. Campers will practice thinking critically about problems and solutions while developing programming skills and team building. AAALC robotics programs begin as young as kindergarten and encourage students to continue through high school and beyond. Robotics is a program provided based on the age and skill of the campers. It uses Spike Prime, EV3 and Lego Education WeDo™ materials to provide lessons incorporating scratch based coding and basic programming. Students work together in small groups to build and program various levels of robots, from working models of alligators, ferris wheels, drumming monkeys and more, to building and coding more complex creations. Students use the model for different purposes, experimenting with various programming techniques. These educational opportunities encourage students to develop broader communication and language skills through cross curricular projects.

Movie Making Magic (Entering Grades 1st -8th) (CLOSED)

Are you creative, love LEGO or other similar items and like to make your own movies? This week campers will express their creativity while becoming movie producers, using LEGO bricks, mini-figures, and movie-maker software to develop stories. Campers will learn stop motion movie making as they create their very own animated movie by writing a script, creating a storyboard, developing characters, filming and editing. Campers can choose between clay or other mediums instead of using LEGO. Students will also be introduced to green-screen technology and experiment with related components.

RUSH: Force & Motion (Partnership: Camp held at RUSH in Jensen) (Entering Grades 1st -7th) (CLOSED)

AAALC and RUSH are teaming up to offer a one of a kind STEAM camp experience. Campers will spend a week at RUSH Trampoline Park in Jensen Beach exploring the science behind jumping, flipping and parkour! Is your child familiar with Newton’s Laws of Motion and how they are evident in the world around us? What is the difference between kinetic, potential and thermal energy and why does it matter? Mornings will be spent in classroom lessons on force, motion, energy and related Physical Science, while the other portion of the day will be spent jumping, experiencing and experimenting with what they have learned. Students will be provided with activities that allow them to observe, record, experiment and understand what forces are at work when objects move! Cost includes all jumps, one pair of socks and related course materials. (NOTE: This is an off site event from 9:00am-3:00pm. No Extended Day is available. Comfortable clothes suitable for jumping and physical activity should be worn. Campers will be dropped off and picked up at RUSH in Jensen Beach. Lunch is available for purchase for $2.50-Pizza or Hot Dog and $5.00 Hamburger or Chicken Sandwich. Both options include a soda. RUSH issued socks must be worn each day. One pair of socks is included for the week. Lost socks can be replaced for a charge of $3.)
