Join AAALC for the 2020-2021 Season FIRST Lego League
Junior Discovery, Junior Explore and Challenge Teams!

Registration is CLOSED at this time.
Please continue to monitor the site for additional program offerings.

The teams below are provided as part of a diversity grant from FIRST LEGO with generous matching funds from Dr. Genon Wicina through a partnership with the YMCA of the Treasure Coast. All teams must include members that are part of underserved populations for STEAM programming. Teams will be formed based on registrations to fulfill the goals of this grant. Families will be notified once teams are formed to confirm each team meets those requirements.  ***There is a possibility that registration requests cannot be filled or will need to be moved to other team options based on grant restrictions for team members. Team confirmations will not be completed until all registrations have been received. AAALC will make every effort to include all interested students.

Space is very limited for this no cost program, it is important for all participants registering to ensure regular attendance and team participation. AAALC reserves the right to remove a student from the program for poor attendance or behavior.

NOTE: All AAALC teachers and staff wear masks. Students/participants are not required to wear masks during programs but may choose to do so. No adults are allowed in the building unless specific business is required via the front office or AAALC has invited them into the program to see final projects. All students will have temperatures taken at the door upon arrival and will only work with their team members, not be combined with other students on site.

Tomorrow’s innovators practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. Guided by two or more adult Coaches, FIRST LEGO League* teams (up to 10 members, ages 9-14) research a real-world problem related to sports. They must design, build, program a robot using LEGO SPIKE PRIME®, then compete on a table-top playing field.

It all adds up to tons of fun while they learn to apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts (STEAM), plus a big dose of imagination, to solve a problem. Along their journey, they develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and even presentation skills, as they must present their solutions with a dash of creativity to judges. They also practice the Program’s Core Values, which emphasize discovery, teamwork and good sportsmanship. No experience is required!

Challenge Teams will participate in competitions if they are available based on Covid restrictions and may advance to regional/state competitions.

If you are interested in creating your own team and requesting an AAALC staff member mentor/coach the group, please contact the office directly at 341-1400.
