PreK/K Beyond My Backyard

Young scientists will explore the incredible resources within their own community, learning about the benefits, challenges and opportunities that exist right where they live. Beyond My Backyard will allow campers to learn about our local waterways, ecosystems, governments, resources and other things necessary to build and sustain a community. Through engineering, exploration and yes...even some explosions....campers will recreate, solve and discover!

Muggle Mania: Happy Birthday Harry Potter! (CLOSED- CALL TO BE ON WAITLIST)
(Entering 1st-8th grade)

Your child is invited to Harry Potter’s Birthday Party! Inspired by the Harry Potter book series, campers will make their own potions, carve wands, “duel”, play quidditch and attend magic classes. Campers will learn herbology and how to tame wild beasts. Various challenges will fill the day and earn campers “house points” just like those earned in the seven book series. Campers will be sorted into the four houses of Slytherin, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw to compete for the House Cup. Register you child today and look for your child’s Hogwart’s Acceptance Letter to arrive in your mailbox the week before camp begins!

Video Game Design (CLOSED- CALL TO BE ON WAITLIST)
(Entering 1st-8th grade)

Is your child interested in creating their own video games? Does your child have an imagination that can take them anywhere? Would you like them to be able to continue their work after camp is over? Join AAALC for an incredible camp week that will continue long after it’s over. Campers will use computer technology to build and design their own video games. They will begin by creating characters and settings and will continue by telling their stories through a game board that is brought to life with technology, transforming learning from the paper and putting the final product into the hands of campers. They will learn to use this tool at the Center and can continue at home, long after camp is over. The possibilities are endless!

Farm to Table: You Are What You Eat (CLOSED- CALL TO BE ON WAITLIST)
(Entering 4th – 8th grade)

This delicious trip into STEAM will cook up some chemistry, melt into math and complete excellent edible engineering projects. Using farm to table foods, campers will study various science, technology, engineering and math concepts related to healthy food! This is a fun, interactive camp that engages children from start to finish. Campers will learn various gardening techniques and will prepare healthy lunches daily from fresh produce. Note: Campers will be exposed to many different kinds of foods and food prep. Campers will not need to bring lunch unless they want an alternative to the daily meal prepared. Please do not register your child for this camp if he/she has food allergies that will be dangerous to participation.
