Category: Summer Camp

Robotics/Coding  (K-7 CLOSED. VPK OPEN)
(Entering VPK – 7th grade)

Robotics and coding are becoming critical parts of the lives of today's youth. Youth are being prepared for jobs that don't yet exist and need to be prepared to think, create and inspire! Robotics builds science, technology, engineering and math skills, providing students with real world experiences, which provides practice critically thinking about problems and solutions while developing programming skills and team building. AAALC robotics programs begin as young as VPK and encourage students to continue through high school and beyond.

Robotics is a program provided based on the age and skill of the campers. Lego Education WeDo™ materials are some of the items used to provide hands on lessons incorporating science, technology, engineering, and math. Students work together in small groups to build and program various levels of robots. From building working models of alligators, ferris wheels, drumming monkeys and more to building and coding more complex creations. Younger campers will make basic robots based on specific skills, abilities and interests. Coding activities will be incorporated into daily lessons as well as young campers learn the ways computers and robots are essential to everyday life.

Cake Decorating (A.M. CLOSED)
(Entering 2nd-8th grade)

Cake Decorating will be offered for half day for different age groups. Incoming 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders will meet from 9:00am-12:00pm and 5th through 8th graders will meet from 12:30pm-3:30pm. There is an additional cost to cover the extensive materials/supplies needed for each program. Instruction and projects will be adjusted to the age and abilities of the campers.

AAALC is putting the Arts in STEAM this summer. Have you ever heard the term "too pretty to eat"? Do you wonder how cake artists create such beautiful desserts? Campers will join a local cake artist to learn the skills needed to create detailed masterpieces, bringing home sweet treats as they learn the decorating techniques associated with the use of each tool. They will let their imaginations run wild as they put their skills to the test and learn the various ways art can feed the body and the mind!

Force & Motion (CLOSED)
(Entering 2nd-7th grade)

Is your child familiar with Newton’s Laws of Motion and how they are evident in the world around us? Campers will study force and motion through the use of various mediums including rockets, matchbox cars, Alka seltzer and more. Camp activities will provide campers with experiences that allow them to observe, record, experiment and understand what forces are at work when objects move!
