June 24 - 28: (VPK/K) Campout: S'more STEAM, (1st-7th) Robotics/Coding, Video Game Design & DNA to Dissection

Date: All day Mon, Jun 24, 2019

Recurs: Daily, Jun 24-28, 2019

Category: Summer Camp

PreK/K Campout: S'More STEAM (CLOSED-Call for Wait List)

Campers entering VPK and Kindergarten will enjoy a week full of STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math as they study the sun, sky, land and sea! Campers will start their week engineering tents, testing stability and planning the "kitchen" chemistry needed to sustain as they "rough it" at AAALC. What kinds of things does one experience in the wilderness? Rock types, clouds in a jar, kite creations, water wheels, energy, bugs and much more... Young scientists will come home with more explorations to share with the family after this ride through the WILDerness!

Robotics/Coding (CLOSED-Call for Wait List)
(Entering 1st-7th grade)

Robotics and coding are becoming critical parts of the lives of today's youth. Youth are being prepared for jobs that don't yet exist and need to be prepared to think, create and inspire! Robotics builds science, technology, engineering and math skills, providing students with real world experiences, which provides practice critically thinking about problems and solutions while developing programming skills and team building. AAALC robotics programs begin as young as VPK and encourage students to continue through high school and beyond.

Robotics is a program provided based on the age and skill of the campers. Lego Education WeDo™ materials are some of the items used to provide hands on lessons incorporating science, technology, engineering, and math. Students work together in small groups to build and program various levels of robots. From building working models of alligators, ferris wheels, drumming monkeys and more to building and coding more complex creations. Younger campers will make basic robots based on specific skills, abilities and interests. Coding activities will be incorporated into daily lessons as well as young campers learn the ways computers and robots are essential to everyday life.

DNA to Dissection   (CLOSED-CALL FOR WAIT LIST)
(Entering 1st-7th grade)

Do you know that you can pull the DNA out of a strawberry or banana or even a fertilized chicken egg? Do you know how to build a DNA strand that you can eat? Have you observed what’s inside different animals and what makes humans healthy? Future doctors, or simply budding scientists who are insatiably curious, will experience the wonder of humans, plants and animals and discover what makes them tick! Hands on experiences, virtual dissection and actual dissection will occur but will be age appropriate and will be taught in conjunction with a respect and admiration for nature, animals and the world around us.

Video Game Design (CLOSED - Call for Wait List)
(Entering 1st-7th grade)

Is your child interested in creating their own video games? Does your child have an imagination that can take them anywhere? Would you like them to be able to continue their work after camp is over? Join AAALC for an incredible camp week that will continue long after it’s over. Campers will use computer technology to build and design their own video games. They will begin by creating characters and settings and will continue by telling their stories through a game board that is brought to life with technology, transforming learning from the paper and putting the final product into the hands of campers. They will learn to use this tool at the Center and can continue at home, long after camp is over. The possibilities are endless!
