PreK-K Fairy Tales
(Entering VPK/K)
Half Day Only 9:15am - 12:15pm

AAALC invites children who are entering PreK or Kindergarten to join us for some Fairy Tale Fun with STEAM programs that integrate science, technology, engineering, art and math activities. This magical one week camp will engross students in a variety of Fairy Tales. Students will become a scientist, explorer, reader, writer and thinker. Learning science through literature activities brings the mind of a young scientist to life!  The Frog Prince may take young biologists through a variety of frog related activities as we explore the life cycle of a frog, measure distances, create habitats, understand amphibians and raise your very own tadpoles. Ladies and gentlemen, this is "ribbiting" stuff! Stories like The Three Little Pigs will encourage young engineers through a variety of problems and solutions as they don hardhats to try different building materials to create solutions for our three friends. Students may meet a real live pig and understand the story elements of The Three Little Pigs while working through a variety of reading, writing, social studies, math and science tasks. There is nothing "boaring" about these lessons!

Minecraft Education: A-maze-ing Mazes!
(Entering 1st-7th Grade)

Scientific American declared, "...not only is Minecraft immersive and creative, but it is an excellent platform for making almost any subject area more engaging." Enter a world of rules, parameters, levels and goals that require hard work, intense thinking, teamwork and problem solving skills. AAALC uses this popular game to provide an academic setting for students. Campers will take a trip that carries them through various mazes, ultimately creating their own as they complete challenges that require them to think critically and plan ahead. This camp will be a week filled with science, technology, engineering and math skills via an a-maze-ing format!

Engineering & Design: Google Earth Meets Virtual Reality
(Entering 1st-7th Grade)

Google Earth and Virtual Reality activities will take campers around the globe and give them a bird’s-eye view of the many wonders of the world. Campers will visit various famous locations and then engineer architecture from their experiences. What makes the Great Salt Lake so special? How does the Leaning Tower of Pisa stay up? Why was a catapult an important part of warfare for castles? Campers might feel the thrill of a roller coaster and then engineer one of their own. Note: Campers will be asked to bring an iPhone two days of camp if one is available to them. They will use it occasionally only when working with the Virtual Reality glasses. Campers without iPhones are welcome to register and will still receive the full camp experience.

Robotics & Coding
(Entering 1st – 7th Grade)

Robotics and coding are becoming critical parts of the lives of today's youth. Youth need to be ready for jobs that don't yet exist and prepared to think, create and inspire! Robotics builds science, technology, engineering, arts and math skills, providing students with real world experiences critically thinking about problems and solutions while developing programming skills and team building. AAALC robotics programs begin at a very young age and encourage students to continue through high school and beyond.

Robotics is a program provided based on the age and skill of the campers. Lego Education WeDo™. Ozobots and other materials are some of the items used to provide hands on lessons incorporating science, technology, engineering, and math. Students work together in small groups to build and program various levels of robots. From building working models of alligators, ferris wheels, drumming monkeys and more to building and coding more complex creations. Younger campers will make basic robots based on specific skills, abilities and interests. Coding activities will be incorporated into daily lessons and young campers will learn why computers and robots are essential to everyday life.
