This program gives early elementary school students and their adult coaches the opportunity to work and create together while they explore science and technology concepts. Challenged to research a real-world problem, then create a Show Me poster and working LEGO model of what they learned, the journey of discovery brings out the best in students and adults alike. No experience is required!

Note:  Student Groups, Scout Troops or Civil Air Patrol Members may register as a group for JRFLL (up to 6 team members) at a reduced rate. Each one must have a parent volunteer to assist with the team. Volunteer training, support and supervision will be provided by AAALC teachers. When choosing this option, groups must register under the appropriate tab and provide the contact person for the group. AAALC will contact groups within 48 hours of registration for a complete list of team members.

Tomorrow’s innovators practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. Guided by two or more adult Coaches, FIRST LEGO League* teams (up to 10 members, ages 9-14) research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®, then compete on a table-top playing field.

It all adds up to tons of fun while they learn to apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts (STEM), plus a big dose of imagination, to solve a problem. Along their journey, they develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and even presentation skills, as they must present their solutions with a dash of creativity to judges. They also practice the Program’s Core Values, which emphasize discovery, teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Teams will participate in a local competition on December 15 and may advance to regional competitions from there.

An alliance between FIRST and the LEGO® Group
