Cake Decorating (Grades 4-12 Only)  CLASS CLOSED   March 7, 21, 28   April 4

Cake Decorating: AAALC is putting the Arts in STEAM. Have you ever heard the term "too pretty to eat"? Do you wonder how cake artists create such beautiful desserts? Students will join a local cake artist to learn the skills needed to create detailed masterpieces, bringing home sweet treats as they learn the decorating techniques associated with the use of each tool. They will let their imaginations run wild as they put their skills to the test and learn the various ways art can feed the body and the mind!

Mad Science Explorations (Grades K-4 Only)                 March 7, 21, 28   April 4

Does your child love Science and Engineering? Does she love to build? Does he have an endless imagination? Mad scientists will explore different aspects of science as they become familiar with the science in their everyday world. Through aerodynamics they will experiment with a variety of flight challenges. They will learn how physics can be fun as they build roller coaster designs and marble mazes. An understanding of how mixtures create shocking results will be developed as they study chemistry through erupting volcanoes, baking soda rockets and more. Students will become familiar with the critical role robotics plays in their world as they program ozobots to complete simple tasks and solve real-world problems.

The Startling Science of Nutrition                                      April 11, 18, 25  May 2

Are you constantly telling your kids the importance of healthy eating? Do you share with them the impact sugar has on the body? Do they know how to read food labels? Are they aware of the importance of healthy snacks and a good diet? This camp will make eating healthy fun and show your child that nutrition information is available everywhere they look. Through science inquiry and hands on lessons, participants will learn about the sugar content of drinks and cereals, test the enzymes in their spit, compare the fats in different foods and understand the impacts of different food choices on their body. This class is meant to educate and inform but students will GORGE themselves on DELICIOUS STEAM activities!

Circuit Training: STEAM Into Electricity                 May 9, 16, 23 (1:30pm-3:30pm)

Participants will invent, design and experiment with energizing projects all week! Each day campers will be challenged to solve problems related to electricity, building a variety of circuits, applying physical principles and designing devices to solve real world problems. Repairing broken toys and creating a circuit game similar to operation will provide campers with unique artistic experiences that integrate electricity. Students will design and light up a house with teammates and complete STEAM challenges that will benefit them for years to come.
