The Lion’s Paw: Beyond My Backyard

STEM and literature will take campers take a virtual trip of Martin County’s most famous waterways as they set off through the rivers and canals and the swamps of central Florida, following the adventures of two orphans and a boy named Ben through The Lion’s Paw by Robb White. With Ben's uncle, the Coast Guard and bounty hunters giving chase, they travel to the Gulf of Mexico and the then-wild beaches of Captiva Island, where the lion's paw might be found. Join AAALC for exciting investigations of the Florida outdoors! We'll take an in-depth look at a variety of Florida's ecosystems with emphasis on the Everglades, St. Lucie River and Indian River Lagoon. STEM activities will enrich our understanding of how these ecosystems are interconnected, the wildlife and plants that inhabit them, and how to contribute to their preservation. Hands-on activities incorporating math and science will be emphasized.

Minecraft Education: Waterworld

Scientific American declared, "...not only is Minecraft immersive and creative, but it is an excellent platform for making almost any subject area more engaging." Enter a world of rules,  parameters, levels and goals that require hard work, intense thinking, teamwork and problem solving skills.

AAALC uses this popular game to provide an academic setting for students. Campers take a deep dive into a water biome as they swim through the week learning about environments, systems and science!
