Recurs: Daily, Jun 12-16, 2023

Category: Summer Camp

Superhero Science (CLOSED)
(Entering Grades PreK - 6th)

Have you ever wanted to be a superhero? Conjure a magic potion, freeze a block of ice, whip up a super storm and study super strength! Ride air currents with Wonder Woman and uncover the secrets of the ocean with Aquaman! Create cool gizmos and gadgets with Batman or discover how fast things can move with Flash. Uncover the science behind the powers of Superman, Spiderman, Iron Man and more as great science defeats evil villians!

Chaotic Chemistry (CLOSED)
(Entering Grades PreK - 6th)

What is peanut butter without jelly? Why can't oil and water get along? Did Kermit and Miss Piggy ever fall in love? Students will discover the explosive combinations that result when chemistry is at work. What substances create something new and different? Which ones don't like each other? Put on your goggles and lab coats and prepare for lots of excitement! Different experiments such as an exploration of color and light, states of matter and rocket launches, are provided based on the ages/grade levels of the children but no one leaves disappointed and most leave with a special concoction or experiment to take home and share!

Movie Making (CLOSED)
(Entering Grades 3rd - 8th)

Get ready to direct your very own animated movie. Writers, directors and producers, ages 8 and up, will produce their own movie by:

·         writing a script
·         creating a storyboard
·         developing characters
·         filming
·         editing

Movie Making is one of the most complex and involved processes students can complete. From idea to movie involves brainstorming, planning, storyboard, writing, illustration, digital animation, editing, sound and more! AAALC will show your young producer, director and writer how movies are made from start to finish. Better yet, let them complete their own movie! Campers will use clay, Legos or other materials to create characters and design backdrops, ultimately producing their own animated movie.

Coding: Scratch and Minecraft (CLOSED)
(Entering Grades 3rd - 8th)

Students joining this class will learn the history of computer programming and what coding is all about. They will be introduced to different computer “languages” and create an account on scratch.mit.edu that they will be able to use after the class is complete. As they explore the environment of scratch and each of the related elements, they will learn how to add sprites and backdrops. They will create blocks, loops and conditional code, adding sounds and music to a video or game. Campers will be saving and playing their own game creations by the end of the week!
