SUMMARY:July 25-29: Robotics/Coding\, CSI & Minecraft Education Zany Zoo
DESCRIPTION:Robotics/Coding (Entering Grades VPK-8th) (CLOSED)\n\nRobotics and coding are becoming critical parts of the lives of today's youth. Youth are being prepared for jobs that don't yet exist and need to be able to think\, create and inspire! Robotics builds science\, technology\, engineering and math skills\, providing students with real world experiences. Campers will practice thinking critically about problems and solutions while developing programming skills and team building. AAALC robotics programs begin as young as kindergarten and encourage students to continue through high school and beyond. Robotics is a program provided based on the age and skill of the campers. It uses Spike Prime\, EV3 and Lego Education WeDo™ materials to provide lessons incorporating scratch based coding and basic programming. Students work together in small groups to build and program various levels of robots\, from working models of alligators\, ferris wheels\, drumming monkeys and more\, to building and coding more complex creations. Students use the model for different purposes\, experimenting with various programming techniques. These educational opportunities encourage students to develop broader communication and language skills through cross curricular projects.\n\nCSI: Crime Scene Investigation (Entering Grades 1st-6th) (CLOSED)\n\nWhodunit? Young detectives will enter a world of mystery and mayhem as they try to solve a “crime”. They will learn how detectives solve cases and what strategies they can use to help. Stealth and saavy investigation will be important. Students will read\, write\, listen and "detect". Fingerprints\, "blood" samples\, footprints\, DNA extraction and more will combine and leave some surprises in store. A special visit from a detective will give young investigators a sneak peek into the world of investigative police work and all that goes into solving real cases. Students will participate in a mystery to solve on the last camp day. Who will be the guilty one? Who will be the mole?\n\nMinecraft: Zany Zoo! (Entering Grades 1st – 8th) (CLOSED)\n\nScientific American declared\, "...not only is Minecraft immersive and creative\, but it is an excellent platform for making almost any subject area more engaging." Enter a world of rules\, parameters\, levels and goals that require hard work\, intense thinking\, teamwork and problem solving skills. AAALC uses this popular game to provide an academic setting for students. Zany Zoo will provide campers with the tools to build an incredible zoo! Planning\, engineering and design will combine to provide students with the tools to create a one of a kind zoo through Minecraft\, after studying how other zoos across the country are designed. \n\nPioneer Days: Gettin’ Dirty (Entering VPK-7th) (OFF SITE PALM CITY LOCATION)  (CLOSED)\n\nCampers will be immersed in the daily cycle of the farm as they discover the wonder of the natural world. From collecting eggs to learning about the animal family that make up a farm community to studying pond life\, baking bread\, making butter and ice cream and creating their own gardens. Campers will take a trip into our natural world to learn the science behind bees\, bugs\, ponds\, animals and so much more. Students will learn the amazing contributions of various natural wonders as they study the science related to each one. Learning will extend beyond the classroom with a plethora of hands-on experiments that give campers a glimpse into the wonders that surround us. Campers will get dirty as they work in the mud kitchen and search for natural items that will be used to make art projects. Science says that playing in the dirt “lowers blood pressure\, reduces stress and increases Vitamin D”. Mud pies anyone? Note: Participants should wear close toed shoes\, sunscreen and old clothes. Please do not register your child for this camp if he/she has allergies that will be dangerous to participation. This camp is held OFF SITE at a large farm located in Palm City. The address and drop off details will be provided to registered campers by March 30 via email.\n\nPioneer Days: Farm to Table: You Are What You Eat (Entering 4th – 7th grade) 9:00am-12:00pm only (OFF SITE PALM CITY LOCATION) (CLOSED)\n\nThis delicious trip into STEAM will cook up some chemistry\, melt into math and complete excellent edible engineering projects. Using farm to table foods\, campers will study various STEAM concepts related to healthy food! This is a fun\, interactive camp that engages children from start to finish. Campers will learn various gardening techniques and will prepare healthy lunches daily from fresh produce and make various foods from scratch! Note: Campers will be exposed to many different kinds of foods and food prep. Campers will not need to bring lunch unless they want an alternative to the daily meal prepared. Please do not register your child for this camp if he/she has food allergies that will be dangerous to participation. This camp is held OFF SITE at a large farm located in Palm City. The address and drop off details will be provided to registered campers by March 30 via email.
