SUMMARY:June 17 - 21: (VPK/K) Engineering/Design\, (1st-7th) Chaotic Chemistry\, Minecraft Education: Parkour & Gross Science
DESCRIPTION:PreK/K Engineering/Design (CLOSED-Call to be added to the Waiting List)\n\nYoung engineers will explore the incredible world of designing\, building and imagining! Throughout the week campers will be exposed to various tools and structures and requested to build and test various designs while examining various scientific principles. On Day 4 and 5 of camp\, teams of three will build a two-story fort\, complete with a roof\, door\, and walls to keep out pesky predators. They will learn about the real-world architecture that inspired forts\, then explore modular construction by taking it apart to design something new. The same teams will put together an LED powered lantern\, utilizing spatial skills to craft with various art mediums. They will begin to understand the history and importance of lanterns\, signals and secret codes. Lastly\, they will build an elastic powered launcher to shoot foam cannonballs and learn about potential and kinetic energy. Once complete\, these three projects will culminate in an epic-ly FUN “cannonball” battle pitting the four teams against each other then pairing them together for some good old fashioned fun!\n\nMinecraft Education: Parkour  (CLOSED-Call to be added to Waiting List)\n(Entering 1st-8th Grade)\n\nScientific American declared\, "...not only is Minecraft immersive and creative\, but it is an excellent platform for making almost any subject area more engaging." Enter a world of rules\, parameters\, levels and goals that require hard work\, intense thinking\, teamwork and problem solving skills. AAALC uses this popular game to provide an academic setting for students. Campers will work through various tasks that require overcoming various obstacles within the world of Minecraft!\n\nGross Science! (CLOSED-Call to be added to Waiting List)\nEntering Grades 1 – 7\n\nEw! Students will complete science experiments and create different substances that look gross\, feel gross or smell gross! This camp isn't for the faint of heart and is for students who love to get dirty. Studying the chemical and physical properties of a variety of substances will create fantastic\, albeit disgusting\, results. Topics may include:\nGross Bodily Functions - Snot\, Edible Skin\, Spit and Taste: They’re related?\, Flatulence\nGerms - Germ Garden\, Traveling Germs\, Microbes\, Effectiveness of Soap/Toothpaste\, Bacteria\nGross Food - Spoiled Milk\, They Eat What?\, Rubber Eggs\nWhat’s That Smell? - Smell Ya Later\, Garbage Art\, 15 Worst Odors  \nAnimals and Scat - Musical Roaches\, Worm Farm\, Drinkable Blood\, Match that Scat\, Bird Poop Art\n\nChaotic Chemistry (CLOSED-Call to be added to the Waiting List)\n(Entering grades 1st-7th)\n\nBig Ideas: Chemistry\, Forces\, Interactions\, States of Matter\, Structure\, Properties\, Energy\, Physical Science\, Ecology and Environmental Science\nWhat is peanut butter without jelly? Why can't oil and water get along? Did Kermit and Miss Piggy ever fall in love? Students will discover the explosive combinations that result when chemistry is at work. What substances create something new and different? Which ones don't like each other? Put on your goggles and lab coats and prepare for lots of excitement! Different experiments such as an exploration of color and light\, states of matter and rocket launches\, are provided based on the ages/grade levels of the children but no one leaves disappointed and most leave with a special concoction or experiment to take home and share!
