SUMMARY:Winter Camp: Minecraft Education\, Robotics\, Mad Science & PreK/K It's Alive in the Antarctic (CLOSED)
DESCRIPTION:It's Alive in the Antarctic!Â  (VPK/K)\n\nLions\, tigers and bears....not quite! But young scientists will join AAALC for some Animal Antics as they explore the world of live animals. This STEAM program integrates science\, technology\, engineering\, art and math activities while working with fuzzy\, furry\, scaly\, wet and slithery creatures. They will engross young zookeepers in a variety of animal explorations as they compare the animals of the Antarctic\, as viewed through Virtual Reality goggles\, to animals of Florida. Young mathematicians and budding entomologists will understand the differences between climates\, environments and habitats and how these differences impact the food\, clothes\, housing and most importantly\, animals\, that make up the regions. Live animals local to our area will be brought in for comparison to those observed via Virtual Reality Lessons. Please consider student allergies when registering.\n\nMinecraft Education: Winter Wonderland\n(EnteringÂ 1st-8th grade)\n\nScientific American declared\, "...not only is Minecraft immersive and creative\, but it is an excellent platform for making almost any subject area more engaging." Enter a world of rules\,Â parameters\, levels and goals that require hard work\, intense thinking\, teamwork and problem solving skills.\n\nMinecraft Education: Winter Wonderland will take will provide campers with the tools to build an incredible arctic biome! Students will plan\, engineer and design to build and supply this cold environment with the tools to needed to survive within the world of Minecraft Education.\n\nRobotics/CodingÂ \n(Entering 1st-8th Grade)\n\nRobotics and coding are becoming critical parts of the lives of today's youth. Youth are being prepared for jobs that don't yet exist and need to be prepared to think\, create and inspire! Robotics builds science\, technology\, engineering and math skills\, providing students with real world experiences\, which provides practice critically thinking about problems and solutions while developing programming skills and team building. AAALC robotics rograms begin as young as kindergarten and encourage students to continue through high school and beyond.\n\nRobotics is a program provided based on the age and skill of the campers. It uses Ozobots\, Vex\, EV3 and Lego Education WeDoâ¢ materials to provideÂ lessons incorporating science\, technology\, engineering\, and math. Students work together in small groups to build and program various levels of robots. From building working models of alligators\, ferris wheels\, drumming monkeys and more to coding more complex creations. Once programmed\, students use the model for different purposes\, experimenting with programming techniques. These educational opportunities encourage students to develop broader communication and language skills through cross curricular projects.\n\nMad Science Explorations\n(Entering K-8th)\n\nDoes your child love Science and Engineering? Does she love to build? Does he have an endless imagination? Mad scientists will explore different aspects of science as they become familiar with the science in their everyday world. ThroughÂ aerodynamicsÂ they will experiment with a variety of flight challenges. They will learn howÂ physicsÂ can be fun as they build roller coaster designs and marble mazes. An understanding of how mixtures create shocking results will be developed as they studyÂ chemistryÂ through erupting volcanoes\, baking soda rockets and more. Campers will become familiar with the critical roleÂ roboticsÂ plays in their world as they use the LEGO robotics kits to design and program bots to complete simple tasks and solve real-world problems. Campers will wrap up the week of fun exploring gooey\, ooey\, icky creations.
