SUMMARY:June 4-8: Minecraft Education: Animal Antics\, It's Alive!\, Cake Decorating/Woodworking (CLOSED)
DESCRIPTION:Minecraft Education: Animal Antics (CLOSED)\n(Entering 1st-8th grade)\n \nScientific American declared\, "...not only is Minecraft immersive and creative\, but it is an excellent platform for making almost any subject area more engaging." Enter a world of rules\, parameters\, levels and goals that require hard work\, intense thinking\, teamwork and problem solving skills.\n \nMinecraft Education: Zany Zoo will provide campers with the tools to build an incredible zoo! Planning\, engineering and design will combine to provide students with the tools to create a one of a kind zoo through Minecraft\, after studying how other zoos across the country are designed.\n \n\nIt's Alive! (CLOSED)\n(Entering 1st-8th grade) \n\nLions\, tigers and bears....not quite! But young scientists can join AAALC for some Animal Antics as they explore the world of live animals. This STEAM program integrates science\, technology\, engineering\, art and math activities while working with fuzzy\, furry\, scaly\, wet and slithery creatures. They will engross young zookeepers in a variety of animal explorations. Young mathematicians may measure distance as they jump like frogs while budding entomologists observe how strong the smallest creatures of the earth can be! Older campers will experience more advanced science processes and be provided with opportunities to experiment with dissection and animal adaptations. Activities and animals will vary each day. Please be aware that children will be interacting with live animals at each session.\n\nCake Decorating/Woodworking   (CLOSED)\n(Entering 2nd-8th grade)\n\nCake Decorating and Woodworking will each be offered for half the day\, with the opportunity to switch to another camp option the other half of the day. There is an additional cost to cover the extensive materials/supplies needed for each program. Instruction and projects will be adjusted to the age and abilities of the campers.\n\nCake Decorating: AAALC is putting the Arts in STEAM this summer. Have you ever heard the term "too pretty to eat"? Do you wonder how cake artists create such beautiful desserts? Campers will join a local cake artist to learn the skills needed to create detailed masterpieces\, bringing home sweet treats as they learn the decorating techniques associated with the use of each tool. They will let their imaginations run wild as they put their skills to the test and learn the various ways art can feed the body and the mind!\n\nWoodworking: Young carpenters will learn the various tools used in Woodworking\, from hand tools to power tools\, based on experience and proficiency. Campers will create a project from start to finish whether they are a beginner\, intermediate or advanced. Simple boxes\, sailboats\, checkerboards\, benches\, organizers\, chairs and more can be chosen for the final project. Guest craftsman will join our experienced instructor to share tips and tricks to developing skills that few today are learning.
